World Geothermal Congress

The first world geothermal conference was held in Florence, Italy in 1995 and hosted by Enel, the Italian power company.

The second world geothermal conference was held in Beppu and Morioka, Japan in 2000. It was organized by the Japanese organizing committee and hosted by the Japan geothermal Association.

The third world geothermal conference was held in Antalya, Turkey, in 2005. It was organized by the Turkish organizing committee and hosted by the Turkish geothermal Association.

The fourth world geothermal conference was held in Bali, Indonesia in 2010 and hosted by the Indonesian geothermal Association.

The fifth world geothermal conference was held in Melbourne, Australia, in 2015. It was co sponsored by Australian Geothermal Energy Association, Australian geothermal energy group and New Zealand geothermal Association. After negotiation, the organizer contracted the management of the conference to a professional conference organization, which also assumed the financial responsibility of the 2015 world geothermal conference.

The sixth world geothermal conference was originally held in Reykjavik, Iceland, from April 27, 2020 to May 1st. It was postponed from October 25, 2021 to October 27th and was held by COVID-19. It was held online in April 2021, May and June for 6 days.

Due to the high enthusiasm of countries competing to host the world geothermal conference, IgA decided in 2018 that the world geothermal conference would be held every three years instead of every five years. Therefore, the Seventh World geothermal conference will be held in 2023.
